Kelsey grew up in a small town in the Beehive state, where her favorite memories were rooted in family dinners or parties with friends where food and cooking were the center of the celebration.
She got her start in the food media industry when she created Kelsey’s Kitchen, a college cooking show at BYU, emphasizing fast, fun and affordable meals for college students. After graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, she attended Le Cordon Bleu – Hollywood, where she earned her professional culinary arts degree. This degree paired with training from the French Culinary Institute in New York City provided culinary production opportunities at Martha Stewart Living and Food Network. In 2008, she was a finalist on The Next Food Network Star, where she was voted ‘fan favorite.’
Since then, Kelsey has hosted five seasons (and counting!) of Kelsey’s Essentials on Cooking Channel where her genuine bubbly personality makes her an approachable kitchen companion for any home cook. Kelsey believes in a refreshingly simple approach to cooking that encourages viewers to find their own voice in the kitchen and cook from the hip. Kelsey’s viewers value the basics, but have a desire to embellish, adapt, change & experiment with classic recipes. You can also find her on Cooking Channel’s Unique Sweets and The Perfect Three. Kelsey was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Culinary Host category in 2013. Her first cookbook, Kitchen Confidence, will be released February 11th, 2014.
She recently broke up with Manhattan and moved across the bridge to Brooklyn where she spends her days developing recipes and cooking up a storm with her husband Robby and 1 year old son, Oliver. These days she enjoys discussing babies as much as baguettes and bok choy while moonlighting between food personality and full-time mom.
