Are such luxuries and I sincerely hope that I never have to surrender either one. While it makes me nervous to think about the future of cookbooks becoming digital, I have to admit that I’m pretty smitten with some of the amazing work that I’m seeing lately.

Pat LeFrieda’s Big App for Meat 101 is nothing short of amazing. Pat LeFrieda is a world class butcher that has put together “a definitive butcher’s guide to every cut of meat.” We’re talking 360 degree views of every piece of meat you can imagine in addition to over 50 minutes of butchery video. For a small girl, I have an unusual fascination with meat and the lost art of butchery. This is like savory eye candy for me. (Did I mention that the first episode of Kelsey’s Essentials season 3 is all about butchery?!)

A tried and true sweet foodie app that has been around for a bit longer but still remains one of my favorites is Martha Stewart’s Cookies App. With Valentines day right around the corner and cookie baking resurfacing, this app is a must for anyone who is a die hard cookie baker. Not only do you get a fantastic library of over 90 cookie recipes, there are how to videos, shopping lists, and more valuable than anything, the design and photos leave me filled with inspiration every time I glance at the app.Talk about a cookie wonderland!

Bon Appetit’s 25 Things to Eat, Drink, & Cook in 2012. Such a fascinating look at what’s in store for us this year in the food world. Some trends listed were expected like embracing a wheat-free lifestyle (can’t do it—no willpower), but most were very inventive and unexpected. I can’t wait to see what unfolds this year when it comes to food trends. If I follow suit behind the food trend setters, hopefully I’ll be eating cookies for breakfast this year and planning a trip to Tasmania!

I picked my favorite sweet & savory upcoming trends from the list and can’t wait to jump on the bandwagon.

I love being food trendy.

yum

…that gets both sweet and savory right. As a matter of fact, at the moment they serve my favorite meal in New York City. A spin-off from the famous Torrisi & Sons, PARM captures everything that I love about a good restaurant. The food is simple, not the least bit fussy, and oh-so-good. Naturally, they are known for the incredible sandwiches that they serve with their famous chicken parm getting all of the limelight. Since their opening on November 7th I have been 5 times and loved almost every single thing that I’ve ordered from the menu. The mouth watering menu includes things like baked ziti, meatballs, pizza knots, giardinia pickles, beets, and the most amazing B&G poppers. The ambiance is fantastic as well with walls decked in the most fabulous wallpaper I’ve ever seen in a restaurant.

In my opinion what they do best is their classic chicken parm sandwich and their homemade ice cream cake. It’s sweet and savory at it’s finest! I cannot recommend PARM enough. Whether you live in the city or you are big apple bound, make sure you give PARM a try.

A few weeks ago my husband Robby and I ventured to the great state of Texas to visit Austin. We went for two primary purposes…food & football. Quite possibly my greatest love and my husband’s greatest love (we also had a blast seeing friends and family). The football game didn’t seem to go our way, but by golly the food sure did.

We received a long list of recommendations from friends but the most unique stop by far was at Gordough’s donuts. Talk about sweet meeting savory! Check out the website for the full list of their crazy concoctions. Our favorite…hands down, The Mother Clucker. Donut meets fried chicken – ‘nuff said.

I’ve been thinking a lot about comfort foods as the weather has started to change and fried chicken has worked its way on to my “must eat” list. To sufficiently educate myself on the best fried chicken in NYC, I’m consulting this “bucket list” and will vow to have fried chicken once a month until I’ve tried them all (drastic? maybe).

Three cheers for fried chicken (especially when it’s on a donut)!
